Who is this course suitable for?
The Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Weightlifting is designed for coaches who currently deliver and work with small groups of athletes under supervision from a more qualified coach. This course will provide learners with the information they need to progress to becoming a fully qualified coach, including assisting athletes at national competitions as their qualified coach and is a prerequisite for applying for a BWL Coach Licence.
This course will provide learners with the information they need to support an athlete’s development; learn how they can start to support an athlete in optimising their lifting technique; be introduced to some of the key psychological skills that athletes need to develop to elevate their performance; delve into the principles of training to create effective training programmes as well as helping learners to identify and correct technical errors.
Please note: The Level 1 Coaching Course is a prerequisite to be able to complete the Level 2 Coaching Course.
E-learning
We have transferred all the great content from our online Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Weightlifting into the E-learning and Practical course.
The updated e-learning has lots of new content that will take you through how to:
- Use accepted training principles to design effective programmes
- Create linked and progressive sessions in a 6-week training block
- Design sessions that can meet the needs of groups and individuals
- Use the BWL Technical Model to identify technical errors and come up with effective interventions
- Use specific assistance exercises to help athletes get the most from their training
The length of the e-learning course has increased from 6-8 hours to 16-24 hours to give you time to complete all the extra learning we have included.
All assessments have also now moved online to improve on the day learning and allow all the time to focus solely on developing your coaching ability in a practical setting. There are 17 modules covered as part of the Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Weightlifting with practical.
Practical
Following feedback from previous learners we have listened and modified the practical sessions from two days to one day. The session now covers assistance exercises and how to apply them to improve weightlifting performance and technique.
By moving all assessments online to evidence competence, the practical session is designed to really helps learners to be a better coach. The course will detail how to apply the exercises appropriately and identify some of the challenges coaches might experience. The practical workshop offers a fantastic opportunity for coaches to develop through peer to peer practice and support. Social distancing and COVID guidelines will be followed for all practical delivery.
Our tutors have a broad range of backgrounds and skills from education, strength & conditioning and coaching allowing us to give our learners the best possible experience.
Prerequisites
- Have completed a UKCC Level 1 Award in Coaching Weightlifting or BWL Level 2 Award in Instructing Weightlifting (or equivalent as recognised by BWL)
- Be at least 17 years of age on the first day of the course
- Have some experience of the lifts and weight lifting
- Be able to communicate effectively in English
