Level 3 Diploma in Coaching Weight Lifting

Have you completed your Level 1 and Level 2 Olympic Weightlifting qualifications? Want to take your coaching skills to another level? The Level 3 Diploma has been part of a wider project to revolutionise our coach education pathway. Our ambition is to support coaches at every level, whether they be new to the sport or aspire to help athletes compete on the international stage.

Description

The course is broken up into four modules, with each looking at a specific aspect of weightlifting performance. The Diploma is filled with information from BWL’s Complete British Weightlifter guide, which serves as a framework to develop weightlifters into international medal winning athletes.

Insights are included throughout the course, with rationale and examples to provide context for coaches. These insights align with BWL’s pillars of performance, which include:

  1. Technical performance
  2. Physical performance
  3. Preparation mindset
  4. Performance mindset

As the National Governing Body for weightlifting and para powerlifting all of our courses offer an unrivalled standard of training to help you achieve your personal goals.

Who is the course for?

The Level 3 Diploma is British Weight Lifting’s most advanced coaching qualification.

Although this course integrates key training principles for long-term development in weightlifting, coaches who work with athletes of all levels should not be dissuaded.

The overarching aim is for coaches to be able to support athletes of any ability to realise their goals. That goal could be to compete in a local competition or medal at a major championship.

What does the course cover?

There are 4 main modules within the qualification. Coaches will cover:

1. Coaching theory and practice for weightlifting - understand the underpinning theory behind motor learning which involves improving the smoothness and accuracy of movements linked to the Olympic lifts. Learn how to apply that theory, how to think critically about the types of interventions to your athletes and have a clear understanding of British Weight Lifting's 'What it Takes to Win' model.

2. Technical underpinning for weightlifting - which includes biomechanical concepts, effective weightlifting technique and the relevance of key derivative exercises in coaching. Understand how to critically evaluate technique using the British Weight Lifting decision making process and develop your knowledge to be able to think critically about how to structure training to help athletes make effective technical changes.

3. Long term planning and organisation for weightlifting - become familiar with British Weight Lifting's philosophy and guidance on long-term athlete development, factoring in different stages of an athlete's development.

4. Prepare for weightlifting competitions - learn how to be able to identify the key principles behind world class performance and have the knowledge to prepare an athlete physically for competition.

You are also required to undertake 3 of the British Weightlifting CPD courses to achieve a pass grade and complete your qualification;

* Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Awareness
* Lift Clean Awareness
* Safeguarding Refresher

What does it qualify me to do?

This course will provide the advanced level of knowledge needed to deliver a comprehensive Olympic Weightlifting coaching programme to support athletes throughout their weightlifting journey from novice to aspiring elite athletes.

How long does it take to complete the course?

  • The length of this course is 40 hours.

The length of this process is at the learner’s discretion, however, to maximise both the coach and athlete experience we recommend a minimum of 8 weeks to complete this process.
